Taxis in Esteli will cost you  app. 15 cordobas per person  anywhere in town, to another location.
If you want the taxi driver to take you into the residential area it is between 40 and 50 cordobas per person, depending on the taxi driver so bargain the price down. Just remember taxis are not private here, so you share them with other people, but you pay your own fee. Also know that when taxi drivers turn you down, it is because they have set routes and the Residencial neighbourhood might not be on their way. So just keep trying a couple of times.

Since it is only a short walk from our house to the entrance of the residential area/Panamerican Highway (500mtrs), you can also take a taxi from there into town. Or coming back from town, have a taxi drop you off at that point. This way you will get to pay a lower fee :). It is a very safe neighbourhood to walk to or from the BnB from the Panamericana (even at night)

A meal in the street can vary from 50 cordobas to 100 cordobas.

There are also some fast food places; Tip Top and Rosti Pollo. You pay somewhere between 150-250 cordobas for a meal, depending your choice of menu.
Personally we like the Rosti Pollo better; the food is more diverse (both restaurants serve mainly chicken) and the place is cleaner and more nicely decorated.
Another great restaurant is Pullaso's Ole, where they serve great steaks and have a nice place outside to sit and eat. The price will vary from 40 dollars and up (for two persons). They also have a 'sister' cafe which is called Aroma's Ole, where they also serve great coffee and small meals and the prices are a bit more economical.  And recently we discovered an Italian restaurant which is called Veccia, which has an absolutely fantastic fetuccini fruti di mare, with heaps of seafood for just a little over 10 dollars! Of course there are more great places which we can tell you all about, but would be too much to mention here :)

There are a couple of supermarkets in town to buy food:
Maxi Pali (which is on the Panamericana and the biggest)
La Segovia (which is in the centre and also has some American/European products)
El Hogar (is near the Mercado in town, where they have the best variety in products, except for the fresh products)
And the regular Pali, also in the centre.

Prices between all them don't differ that much.
And also since a couple of months there is the la Colonia right next to the Cathedral which is an excellent supermarket with more luxurious groceries as well. They even sell blue cheese :)!!

The best deal for buying fresh fruit and vegetables however is at the mercado.

Hope to see you soon,
